Replacing fishing gears used for “beach protection” with eco-friendly alternatives should become the priority of every government advocating for environmentally friendly politics and sustainable tourism.

From our side, we are simply blown away by the beauty of the SharkSafe Barrier™ exclusion experiment in St Paul, after one year since deployment.

Designed to keep sharks separated from swimmers and surfers, the SharkSafe Barrier™ technology combines two shark deterrents: the visual appearance of a think kelp forest with a strong magnetic field.

FOR THE WHOLE YEAR THE BARRIER UNITS DIDN’T NEED ANY MAINTENANCE.

The installation survived the winter storms, despite the anchorage system is designed to be removed at the end of the experiment, and also became a stunning reef with several fishes feeding of the biofouling on the structure.
