Calm waters
When working with sharks for collecting photo ID, we need to get them to the surface to take good high-quality photos of their dorsal fin nice and perpendicular to the water. Sometimes the sharks surprise us and swim in odd positions instead. This image illustrates another very curious, playful and calm individual. The Great white shark is the world’s largest predatory fish and can reach lengths of 6m and can swim up to speeds of 60km an hour. Nevertheless, they are not always hunting, and this image shows it well: the lack of water splash and the clear shot is indicative of a very calm, relaxed individual.
